Barbara Ives

The funeral of Barbara Ives took place in St Mary's Church, Swaffham Prior on Monday 12th July. She died at the age of 102.

Barbara lived in the village (St Mary's Cottages, 47 High Street) for many years towards the end of her long life, before moving into residential care in Suffolk. She was always a wonderful source of friendship, hospitality, conversation, wisdom, opinions, sherry -and sometimes even gossip. She loved people. She also loved music (and was an active friend to Cambridge Voices). Above all many of us remember her as an inspired and colourful painter.

Born and brought up in Lincoln, Barbara remembered and talked about the First World War. She went to school in Wales, a country that she grew to love, and worked as a secretary in London for two Lords: Beaverbrook and Moran (Winston Churchill's personal physician). Barbara was married to a schoolmaster, Frank Ives, who sadly died suddenly many years before she did. They had a son and two daughters, and Barbara was devoted to her numerous grandchildren -and greatgrandchildren.
