NOT SINCE Michael Palin advocated cross-dressing for lumber-jacks might the sound-effects from the assembled company have been quite the same as when Swaffham Prior's Michael Hargreaves explained why the village should welcome ECDC's proposed travellers'site at a packed village meeting this month.
No, the village didn't welcome ECDC's proposed new travellers' site- you could tell that quite easily really! They thought it was crassly situated with respect to neighbouring properties and much too big for the school.
Readers are welcome to peruse our archives on the Crier web-site to see what a nimby, prejudiced lot we are like when it comes to the travelling community - actually not like. People moaned about rubbish left in the wake, that's all, and it appears to be ECDC who was the biggest moaner not to mention evictor (well, they had to foot the bill for the clearing up), the very lot who are now assuming the moral high-ground from the vantage point of a 107 page pdfs hidden behind obscurely named links that must be replied to In Duplicate by August 16th. Oh, and be sure not to mention any paltry financial issues like the value of the house next door...
Anyway, there are other things that happened this month, among which John Norris saw a Mock Sun, (see photo below, but not the Swaffham Prior one, unfortunately) Lloyd Clarke made it into French waters with his channel swim and Mark Lewinski claimed the distinction of being the first person to walk the Lode Bridge (albeit not to the other side of the Lode unfortunately, we are still waiting for this).
Don't miss the latest from our local broadband provider RASP who are now upgrading their service to even faster still, and meanwhile many goodbyes and best wishes to Ian and Martin from the Red Lion, who will be sorely missed. They will be transferring to a pub in Boston at the beginning on August 1st and the new tenants (also from Lincolnshire) will be arriving on Tuesday, Aug 2nd. All change at the Lion again!
