Village Gardeners

SPVG's June Outing

A convoy of cars set out (one-a very snazzzy red one), to take 21 of us to see Charles and Kate Comins lovely garden , at the Old House in Fulbourn. It was a beautiful sunny evening, but we all clutched jackets for the later evening chill.

It's impossible to go naming plants, but the tall flint wall that surrounded the garden was clad in a wonderful variety of roses and clematis;the wide herbaceous borders were a mass of flowering shrubs and summer flowers;the splendid pond was full of water lilies and backed by a pergola ,up which was climbing more clematis with huge flowers-I really should have asked the name of that one.

I think we were all full of admiration and Roger Connan thanked our hosts for a most enjoyable evening. It ended with wine and nibbles-the money for which the Comins give to Magpas and the N.G.S.(the dates for when they open to the public can be found in the yellow book)

The Gardeners are going to Coton Manor Gardens on the 10th July any one wishing to come - please contact Roger Connan or Peter Hart.
