Strawberry Tea on the Fens
Not even the football could spoil the afternoon. It was glorious. Uninterrupted sunshine, (apart from a couple of gusts of wind to topple the umbrellas); good company; swimming for the youngsters; big screen TV for those who couldn't live without the football; excellent music from the folk group (the singer was outstanding) This event has rapidly established itself as an annual institution in the Swaffham Prior calendar. The first one was held last year and this one built on that experience.
Many thanks to Linda Evans and her family for the hospitality of their gardens, a haven from busy city life, and to the St Mary's Social Committee and its helpers for organising the event, which raised £300 for church funds.
This is what our church is about, establishing a good community, and Swaffham Prior does it so well.
And from Dee... .
Children played in the pool and Cocky Fruit-tails, Lily Cook-Noyes and David Thomas entertained us with traditional tunes -and cheered us all up when we heard the football result! Over sixty people basked in the sunshine, including some who were just passing and stopped to see what all the fun was! Huge thanks to the Evans and Jordans for hosting the event and to all who helped prepare, serve, wash-up, fetch and carry and provide music.
Particular thanks to the kind donor who paid the musicians for their performances.
