Editorial
NO SOONER SAID THAN DONE - the Crier is beginning to feel like the Murdoch Empire: one adverse comment from us and everything is to be put right at once! We are of course referring to the Uglygate, the crooked new Dyke gate that was the subject of last month's editorial, and to our delighted surprise is now to be moved 40 meters away (see Letters) and will match the other gates.
As every reader with email will know, getting round to complaining is so much easier when you don't have to find an envelope and stamp, and NOW could not be a better time, with all those cuts looming large over everybody's heads. We need to make sure the right things are cut! Yes, the Crier has a list, and they'll none of them be missed... .
But STOP PRESS: the District Council wants to site 6 large Gypsy pitches on
Heath Road (see map), just adjacent to Goodwin Farm, and we have until August
16 to express our views. Readers should go to www.eastcambs.gov.uk/local-development-framework/current-consultation (you will need to do find Goodwin
Farm on your browser if you don't want to get bogged down in the various
visions and Farsi translations etc.) or email ldf@eastcambs.gov.uk or phone
01353665555.
This is something of a major venture for this little village, and the Crier will be asking if it is not possible to hold an old-fashioned meeting at the Village Hall instead of this "webconsultancy" - navigating through this site is wholly non-obvious!
(Post publication note - there has now been a meeting and there is information on the village web site about this proposed Travellers Site including help filling in the Council's questionnaires.)
