The Victim
I'm the ordinary chap,
you pass by in the street,
Not one for whom you step aside,
nor ever pause to greet;
But I'm the ordinary chap,
No-one recalls my name
The one who looks like many more,
all ordinary; all the same.
So I'm the ordinary chap,
who never will have claim
To any but the simple life,
I never will make fame.
At school; I never won a prize
I never scored a goal
I never scored a cricket run--
I was always out, first bowl.
Whilst others get their interview,
for Radio or TV
No one even asks the time
of ordinary me.
I'm the victim of my circumstance,
as far as I can see
Whilst other folk are interesting:
I am, -- well, ---
I'm just me.
