Anglesey Group Mothers' Union
In October we welcomed Angie Stewart from Cambridge Women's Aid to speak on
their work and the services they provide. The organisation started in 1977 and
aims to offer information, advice and practical as well as emotional support to
women affected by domestic abuse, and provide safe and secure accommodation to
women and children in need of a place of safety.
The Cambridge Women's Aid provides a refuge for women and children from outside the Cambridge area to ensure the clients are secure, likewise those clients from the Cambridge area are provided safe accommodation outside of the area. For a number of years Lode Mother's Union together with residents of Lode have provided Cambridge Women's Aid with donations of toiletries, baby products, together with gift items and toys at Christmas. Since the Anglesey Group Mother's Union was formed the group have continued to support CWA. Angie gave us examples of how important, valued and acceptable the donated items are to women and children when they have had to leave their homes with no belongings. Members will be bringing along items to the November meeting for donation to the CWA in time for Christmas.
During tea the "Autumn" Bring and Buy Stall was held.
We will be holding our Christmas Lunch on 9th December.
