That Dog Show

The start may have been a bit slow - when we arrived at a few minutes before 2 pm barely a handful of dogs was to be seen and we did begin to think that the dog show might be over and done with rather quickly, sending these very few dogs home festooned with several very fine rosettes each! But, we of little faith! Out of the woodwork they all came to provide a very fine and varied field of canine contestants from near and far. Judging was definitely a challenge given the level of the competition, but we tried to be fair and even-handed. In some cases however we had to settle for a draw with joint firsts . The two second place rosettes went to the two entries in the best toy dog class - the dogs did not seem to mind, and one of them was even a stray with no apparent owner! All competing canines largely behaved impeccably (as did their owners/ handlers), the sun was shining (amazingly, given the downpour merely a few hours earlier!) and hopefully a good time was had by all. We certainly enjoyed it immensely (- and have so far not received any dubious anonymous letters or wondered what that strange taste in the tea might be). So a very big thank you to Kate Childs in charge of entries, our brilliant compere Alistair Everitt, Alan Gould who very kindly sponsored the event, and of course not least to all who came and took part.

The standard has been set -Crufts beware!!!!!!!!
