What a difference a volunteer can make

When Lode Mill's new Steward, Chris Stimson, wanted to put the flour bagging process on show, a helpful new volunteer was on hand. David Purr happened to have some very valuable skills from a lifetime in agricultural engineering, and created a bench to tuck in next to the flour shoot. Say Chris, "He really carries on the tradition of millers who've always put their hand to anything to keep the mill moving -this is what it's all about." David is one of the crew of new volunteers enabling the mill to open more often but Chris is looking for even more volunteers. You could be a college leaver (with the employment market so competitive, volunteer experience could give you an edge on other applicants). Or you might be someone who wants an active retirement. Volunteers at Anglesey Abbey can practise skills in everything from guiding tours and advising visitors, to getting the water mill's wheels moving. It's a great opportunity to meet people and we have volunteers of all ages here.
