The Swaffham Crier Online

We can learn a lot from the Iranians

In Iran people demonstrate against the State in spite of the risk of beatings, ofprison or even of death. We must admire them because we have no greater problemthan the Quy Traffic Calming. It is probably fair to say that a minimum of 85% of non-Quy drivers find it exasperating, infuriating and potentially dangerous. Both Bulbec and Prior Parish Councils have expressed their concerns to David Brown who passed these on the CCC, Christopher Welton now takes up the issue in this extract from the Bulbeck Beacon:-

"We understand that CCC have stated that they have no complaints from neighbouring Parish Councils about displaced traffic!! [ this is a reference to the increased number of people driving via Bottisham]. Clearly we must now make an effort to lodge a personal protest by e-mailing or mailing CCC at the following addresses: CCC: info@cambridgeshire.gov.uk, or Highways Department,Cambridgeshire County Council, Shire Hall, Castle Hill, Cambridge, CB3 0AP."

It won't take long and you won't receive a beating, or prison, or even death foryour pains. You might even receive an answer.

Ed's Note. No sooner said than done! I sent this:

Quy Traffic Calming Scheme

Could I please register a protest about this scheme because I think it is dangerous?

On three occasions now, coming home from Cambridge in the evening (I live in Swaffham Prior, further up the 1102), traffic has unexpectedly lurched out in front of me, directly in my path coming towards me, at the last of the half-road blocks in Quy, so causing me to brake sharply and on one occasion was really frightening. The problem seems to be that at in the evening rush hour, traffic trying to go the other way is held up for inordinate lengths of time at the road-blocks, and so they barge out. This would not be quite so bad were it not for the fact that the cars queuing behind the leading car immediately follow suit, and they cannot see me, and of course, I cannot see them either, until it is almost too late.

And got this back the next day:
