The Swaffham Crier Online

Fen Vision

Thank-you to everyone who attended our recent Drop-In session in Swaffham Prior, people's interest and support for the Vision was extremely encouraging. Work has begun on the renovation of the former fen workers cottage next to the main car park, which will house our new Dragonfly Centre .The centre, the only one of its kind in Europe, is a joint collaboration between the National Trust, the British Dragonfly Project and the British Dragonfly Society. Development of the Centre has been assisted by a grant from the Fens Adventurers Rural Development Programme, an RDPE initiative funded by Defra, the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development: Europe investing in rural areas and Local Authorities, with additional grants from the Environment Agency and Anglian Water. The centre will be formally opened by our Patron Chris Packham on Sunday 26 July. The waterways and ponds provide a fantastic habitat for dragon and damselflies with 22 species recorded on the Fen.
