The Swaffham Crier Online

Speedwatch Scheme

Is organised by the East Cambridgeshire Strategic Partnership through their Neighbourhood Panel Scheme. It is for those wishing to take the initiative to promote speed reduction and prevent speeding within the parishes. Funding to purchase the equipment needed (hand held speed cameras) is being provided by a combination of monies from the County Council, the Constabulary and District and Parish Councils.

A successful pilot scheme has been carried out in the Soham and East panel area and details of this can be found on the Neighbourhood Panel webpage at; www.eastcambs.gov.uk.

Groups of volunteers are needed from the parishes. Volunteers are trained by the Police to use the Speedwatch equipment and run the scheme. Volunteers do not have to stay in their own parish but can help with the scheme in other parishes.

Several people have already come forward to volunteer and the first training session is already in place.

If you would like to get involved with the above or would like further information, please contact Karen or a Parish Councillor.
