The Swaffham Crier Online

Singing Workshops for Fun

...are still being held in Swaffham Prior Village Hall on Monday evenings 7.30-9.00pm

They are open to anyone who fancies singing. The emphasis is on enjoyment and developing the confidence to bring out hidden or stifled ability.

According to workshop leader Cath Coombs, people are often too inhibited to sing as much as they'd like:

"So many people sing their hearts out when they think they can't be heard, like in the bath, say, or while they're driving, but never do it at any other time. These workshops give people who love to sing the chance to meet up behind closed doors and really let rip."

Workshops involve work on breathing and warming up the voice as participants are taken through a series of fun, loosening up exercises geared towards being able to sing more freely. As Cath explains:

"People regularly surprise themselves at what they can do once they let go and relax."

A variety of songs are learnt by ear and there is also the opportunity to sing harmonies. People are welcome to bring their own suggestions for songs to sing too.

No previous experience of singing is necessary, and participants don't need to be able to read music. There is a unique beauty to be found in everybody if only they are given a chance.
