Festive Singing at the Village Hall
THIS YEAR Carol Singing in the Village Hall was even better than ever with a
very gratifying showing of cubs and scouts. I was told "We have our full
complement of eighteen in both groups and soon we are starting Beavers".
How well and how successfully the scouting organisers have worked with what
appears to be an ever increasing number of leaders and assistant leaders.
There were so many new faces as well as those old favourites such as the Primes and the Wilkinses - the phrase "regular troopers" comes to mind. This especially applies to Betty Prime who admonished the band and compre over our rendering of O Christmas Tree - "If you are going to sing it, then sing it properly. Now try again". And we did. And we sang it "properly".
Andrew Noyes had dragged himself from his sick bed to lead his band and for the
first year for some time Dave and Sue Jackson had to work hard to maintain the
supply of mulled wine.
The singing was excellent. Tim Doe gave a rendering of I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas which would have made Bing turn in his grave with envy. As always The Twelve Days of Christmas produced its stars with Oliver Ginn being an appropriately rich contented partridge, Tina Jost and her girls were sensational five golden rings, while a group of the scouts gave a most lusty rendering of seven boys a-singing.
