Activities for Children at Burwell Library

For 2008, the Summer Reading Challenge takes a sporting theme to encourage children to get active and get reading.

How does it work?

  1. Children sign up for the challenge and get their much-coveted `moving image' membership card.
  2. The scheme encourages children toread up to six books over the holidays, working their way through bronze and silver stages to go for gold. The books don't need to be six chunky novels, they can be any type of book - fact books, joke books, audio books or picture books.
  3. Children are given stickers along the way to encourage them to complete Team Read.
  4. All children who finish the Team Read are presented with a certificate and medal.
  5. Activity sessions are held in Burwell library (next to Burwell Village College, The Causeway) every Tuesday morning between 10.00 and 12.00, from the 29th July until 26th August. No need to book a place, just turn up!

Children need to be members of any Cambridgeshire library, mobiles included (it's very easy to join), and younger pre-school children can take part in the Team Read Book Crawl.

The Team Read (and joining the library) is free, and starts on Saturday, 1 9th July. For more information, go to www.enjoyreading.co.uk. There's also a dedicated Team Read website with games, activities and author blogs. Go to www.t4eamreading.co.uk
