Wednesday 3rd September - Lecture on the Life and Times of Cromwell, 7-9 pm
Lecture on one of the most famous men in British History. Find out such things as how Cromwell came to live in Ely, why he did not take the title of king and why he banned Christmas.
£6.50 per person, booking is essential. Price includes a glass of wine and nibbles and tour of House.
Saturday 6th September - Commemorate Cromwell , 10-4 pm
Ely turns back the clock to the 17th century to commemorate the 350th anniversary of the death of Oliver Cromwell in 1658. Activities for all the family with the re-enactment of the English Civil War on Palace Green. Chance to participate in period dancing, discover food and cooking of the time and meet civil war soldiers. Encampment showing a variety of craft demonstrations such as cloth dying and candle making. Special appearance by Oliver Cromwell on horseback! Inside Oliver Cromwell's House, children will be able to listen to 17th Century stories from a master storyteller and discover medicine from a period Barber Surgeon. All events on Palace Green are free, normal admission price applies to Oliver Cromwell's House.
