Cambridge Building Society at heart of the community

Cambridge Building Society is pleased to report a record contribution - in terms of both money and time - to its local community in 2007.

Staff donated a massive 2,564 hours of their own personal time last year, to support a range of charitable events, from garden make-overs to high profile fundraisers. A total of 227 local charities benefited from the Society's efforts.

One of these is the Press Relief Appeal for Teenage Cancer Trust, which is currently raising funds for a special teenage cancer ward at Addenbrooke's Hospital. As well as holding the Appeal's account and organising a number of in-branch fundraisers, the Society was delighted to sponsor and take part in the first Magical Moonlight Walk and In the Mood Charity Ball.

Cambridge Building Society also put its support firmly behind annual disability sports festival Youth Games PLUS, by sponsoring teams from schools in the Huntingdon area, enabling more disabled children to take part in the event

The popular Sawston Fun Run benefited from the Society's efforts as major sponsor once again last year, and a total of £6,000 was raised for three local charities at annual staff fundraiser Tour de Branch.

The Society is always looking for new ways of supporting its local community. If you know of a charitable organisation that needs our help, please let us know! Either pop into your local branch, email enquiries@cambridgebs.co.uk or telephone the Marketing Department on 01223 727727.

Of the Society's contributions, Marketing Manager Carole Charter said:

"We are very proud of the support we give to local causes. Staff at each of our 23 branches are encouraged to get involved with community groups in their patch and are given a budget so that they can back local events. In addition, the Society enjoys showing its support of some of the more high profile fundraisers, such as the Teenage Cancer Trust Appeal."
