Let the Bells Ring Out
SOME WILL HAVE NOTICED there was no "Last Tuesday of the Month
Practice" in January. This was because of an electrical fault in St.
Cyriac's. Andrew Camps suggested alternative lighting based on his earlier
ringing experience. See below for a picture taken in February 1883 of handbell
ringers all muffled up, with no heating, and lit by a single tillylamp which
can be seen on the left side of the picture. Andrew's kind suggestion was
refused. The ringers in the picture, from left to right, are Geoff Lewis,
Andrew Camps, Reg Webb, Peggy Stanier and Philip Sheldrick (Tower Captain).
A very exciting Band will be visiting and ringing from 2.00- 3.00pm on Saturday 8 March. This is the Society of Royal Cumberland Youths who ring at St Martin-inthe- Fields in Trafalgar Square.
