From our District Councillor
Over the next two and a half years, grant funding is being made available to
"grassroot" community groups in East Cambs which may be relevant to
some groups in the Swaffhams. In summary, not-for-profit voluntary or community
organisations, which have been active in their community for not less than
twelve months, have a governing document and evidenced income of less than
£20,000 per annum (averaged over the last three years) can apply for a
Grassroots Grant of between £250 and £5000 for projects that address local
needs.
The grants are administered by the Cambridgeshire Community Foundation (CCF) - a local registered charity which makes grants to local groups on behalf of donors including local companies, individuals, and local and national government.
More details can be found on the CCF website: www.cambs.org.uk (including the application form). Groups are encouraged to call the CCF office (01223 421588) to talk about their funding needs before completing an application form.
I am sure this funding could apply to some of our local groups, so let us make use of it for the good of our Swaffham ward.
There has sometimes been hiccups in the delivery of refuse sacks, so East Cambs County Council now prose to make a once a year delivery of the black plastic bags and the clear plastic bags for plastic bottles. I will give more information on this when it is available.
On Saturday, October 18, Ely hosted its annual Apple Festival. As usual, it was held on Palace Green and was a great success. Events included:
- Apple identifiers - capable of identifying the variety by sight
- Longest Peel Competition
- The popular Apple Cafe, which served a variety of apple related refreshments
- A variety of stalls containing everything from rural crafts such as bee keeping to live folk music.
The event was run and organised by East Cambs District Council and many thinks should be given to Tracey Harding, our Tourism Leader at East Cambs for making the day such a success.
