Simon Goddard Ordained
On Saturday 9th August more than a hundred and twenty people gathered at
Bottisham Primary School for the joint holiday club and ordination celebration.
Face painting was available upon arrival, and the first part of the service was
led by Jonathan and Emma Dowman, the local Anglican curate and his wife, who
helped the parents of holiday club children share in some of the experiences
from the week.
Simon was then ordained by Rev. Paul Hills (from the Eastern Baptist Association), and Rev. Dr. Nigel Wright (from Spurgeon's College) gave a short talk. The service ended with Simon being 'anointed' with confetti by the children, two of whom also prayed for him in his new ministry. The celebrations continued with a barbeque, bouncy castle, free ice-creams, a craft activity with the Wildlife Trust and a Composting display from WRAP (Waste and Resources Action Programme). There were even free low energy light bulbs given away (courtesy of the Energy Saving Trust) to tie in with the environmental theme of the holiday club and to remind people of the holiday club memory verse: "Jesus said: 'I am the light of the world'". It was, indeed, a unique and enjoyable occasion for all involved.
