The Swaffham Crier Online

WI Notes

Our speaker at the monthly meeting had us all in a quandary. What did he do, we wondered? His subject was "Chaplain to Horse-racing". We guessed he perhaps ministered to the needs of horses - i.e. fed and watered them and calmed their fears on race days, so was he really a glorified stable-boy?

However, all our questions were answered in a highly amusing talk by the Rev. Graham Locking, a very colourful character and a Methodist minister for thirty years, who helps and befriends members of the racing fraternity. His career began with ministering to the down and outs in Stepney, changing into becoming a freelance minister in 1998. He is cheery and non-judgemental, a man who obviously cares deeply for people and accepts them as they are, with all their human failings.

Next month's meeting is on October 20th at 7.30pm in the Village Hall. New members are very welcome.
