He loved her, not for her pretty face,
Nor e'en her Paris hat;
But because she said that she could make

PASTRY CASE HISTORIES 2, or The Sad Sequel.
As he stood upon the embankment
Just before ending his life,
He thought of his dog, and his garden;
And then he thought of his wife.

He thought of her as he first knew her,
Young, lissom and thin.
He'd noticed her eccentric habit
Of diluting her milk drinks with gin;

But he questioned her not, and they married;
Ah! What a glorious day.
Her dress was in pale puce-magenta,
Relieved with rhinoceros-breath grey.

For a time all went well, they were happy,
Till one day something altered all that:
He'd realised eventually, she could not make,
Good pastry without adding fat.
