The Anglesey Group Mothers' Union

The Salvation Army

CAPTAINS PAUL AND LOUISE WOOD of The Salvation Army came to our Mothers'Union Group on July 19th when Paul gave the most interesting talk about that organisation. Paul came not only with his wife Louise but also his two year old son Caleb. What a joy it was to have a young family in our midst!

We had the most fascinating afternoon hearing all about the work of The Salvation Army. We are all aware I am sure of the wonderful work that this organisation (founded by William Booth in 1865) does. We were still amazed though at the great range of works they are involved in and at the end of Paul's talk we knew that The Salvation Army is an organisation to be not only admired, but one for which we should be very grateful. Their work includes Family Tracing for the Missing Persons Bureau, provision of food and shelter for the homeless, relief work in emergency situations at home and abroad, visiting prisons, and standing alongside people in times of need. One of our Members reminded us that it was The Salvation Army who were the first people to meet the troops with love and support when they returned home from War. These are just a few of the ways in which they work - many others were covered in Paul's talk. Paul and Louise live in Histon and we are very grateful to them for coming to spend the afternoon with us - we had a most enjoyable and interesting time.

On August 12th four new Members will be enrolled into the Mothers'Union at the morning Service in Bottisham Church at 11.00am. This will bring our membership up to 36.

Our next Meeting is on September 20th, when Dr. Carrie Herbert from "The Red Balloon"in Cambridge will be coming to speak to us. Anyone who wants to come will be very welcome - we shall be delighted to see you!
