Letters to the Editors

DON'T DITCH OUR LODES!

Dear Editors,

Since I wrote to you regarding the above an on-line E-Petition has been started and has already been signed by many people including Mr James Paice, M.P., several County and District Councillors, and the Chairmen of some local Parish Councils. If your readers wish to sign it and have access to the Internet they should go to -

http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/OurLODES/

I believe that the E-Petition will carry a lot of weight, certainly so if even more people sign it!

Desperately Seeking Rodney

Dear Editors

Could we please make an appeal through you for anyone to contact us who may still keep in touch with Rodney and Carol Firmin who used to live in our house at Lowfields, Lower End?

We would like to fill in some history about the house.

Nit-Picker picked?

Dear Editors,

The bike statistics mentioned in my verse (May) were from the Cambridge Evening News. The others were from a National Daily and were edited down so as not to offend the faint-hearted.

It's possible that the stolen bicycles, having been returned, were stolen again the next week, although a van was seen collecting bicycles in Newmarket.

No new bicycles were mentioned in the verse, but it's a sad thought that if a National company was involved in manufacturing replacements, it would probably not be in this country!

Incidentally, I understand that more bicycles than cars are sold in this country, and there's not one with a safe, comfortable seat!

Thank you to the 1st Swaffham Prior Scouts!!

Dear Editors,

Over recent weeks the Pound had become increasingly overgrown but thanks to the Scouts all is now tidy and the Pound stands proud once again, ready for its historic tale to be told.

The Parish Council would like to thank the Scouts for their help under the dedicated direction of their Scout Leader, Tim Doe, in weeding and tidying the Pound enclosure.

Tigers Get the Money!

SOME BREAKING NEWS on the Burwell Tigers Swaffham Prior Development!

Today we have received notification that our first grant application has been passed! The Local Network Fund have agreed to fund our new pitches at the Recreation Ground. Great news.

I have said before that progress would be slow until the grant applications worked their way through the systems but we should be hearing more news in the coming weeks on other grants. Our aim is for the next stage to be complete by the end of the summer. That means we should have a temporary car park, security gate and fencing and the pitch levelled and seeded.

We continue to strive to solidify our links with the village and in July our coaches will be running the football section of the Swaffham Prior playscheme so please attend in numbers!

We have recently enjoyed coaching at the school`s P.E. week. Emma Vincent`s references certainly helped with our application for funding from the L.N.F. Thank you Emma.

Tigers are continuing to raise money themselves and are holding a Car Boot Sale at Margaret Field in Burwell on July 15th. For more details visit the Tigers website at www.burwelltigers.co.uk
