Pastoral Letter

Dear Friends,

John Newton demonstrated powerfully that 'music is the food of love', and his hymns have graced our Church worship ever since. We will remember, in this year of the double centenary of the abolition of slavery, that it was John Newton who encouraged William Wilberforce in his great battle to convince parliament to bring in the necessary laws to abolish that loathsome trade.

Weak is the effort of my heart,

and cold my warmest thought;

but when I see thee as thou art,

I'll praise thee as I ought.

`Till then I would thy love proclaim

with every fleeting breath;

and may the music of thy name

refresh my soul in death.

I, like John Newton, love singing hymns, and I want our five Churches to make the very best use of the considerable musical talent, that I know exists in our five villages, to worship God. If you are musical and want to join me in that great calling, then please give me a phone call or send me an e-mail and join me in proclaiming our love for Jesus 'with every fleeting breath'.

May God bless you all,

David
