School News
Many apologies to the School - this report should have appeared in February's Crier.
THE CHRISTMAS PREPARATIONS IN SCHOOL seem so long ago now (Indeed they were!
Sorry.. ! Eds), but very fond memories of our pantomime, 'Strictly Come
Panto', will remain with us for a long while. The children all pulled
together and put on a spectacular performance. It could not have been possible
without the superb direction of April Cook, who put the whole thing together.
We were also very lucky to have great support from some parents, whose
carefully arranged scenery was out of this world.
The choir enjoyed giving a concert to the residents of Burwell Day Centre just before Christmas. They sang a range of old and new carols, ensuring that all of the residents were left with big smiles on their faces.
Thanks to Jen Holmwood from Reach, the school has been able to make some links with a school in Kenya. Some of the children in years 4 and 5 have developed pen pal links with Kenyan children and this has really helped them to see some of the differences and similarities between children's lives here and there. A video of our school has been sent over to the school in Kenya and we are eagerly awaiting one in return.
Our school playground has recently had a brand new addition. A very colourful climbing wall has been fitted to the end of the school building, thanks to FoSPS. The children are really enjoying playing on this at playtime and they are starting to respond well to the challenges set to them. For example, 'Can you get all of the way along by only holding the red and purple hand holds.' Believe me, it is quite tricky!
The school is getting fit this term! We have a variety of clubs happening throughout the week including dance, gym, skipping, nature, basketball and football! We are also encouraging some of our pupils to take part in Tennis lessons in Cambridge. As part of the school's travel plan we are also encouraging the children to walk or cycle to school if they can. We now have 15 children regularly coming to school on the bus from Reach and this has greatly reduced congestion outside the school.
Towards the end of February we are going to be (presumably did! Tell us about these in next month's Crier. Eds)holding a Puzzle Challenge day in school. This will also involve a family fun activity evening, so hopefully by the end of the day we will be champion puzzle solvers.
Also at the end of February some of our Year 5 and 6 children will be taking part in a geography quiz at Bottisham Village College. We have been working hard to improve their knowledge of the world and Europe, including doing lots of jigsaws in class. We wish them lots of luck.
