The Swaffham Crier Online

Editorial

WHAT AN EXCELLENT TIME OF YEAR TO BE YOUNG: burnings, witches, fireworks and all that innocent stuff. But for the rest of the year, things don't look so good for Swaffham Prior youth. Unless, of course, you can help.. .

First of all cubs. Massively popular, their leader's had to leave, and unless they get a new one, that's the end of cubs.

Second of all, Youth Club, until relatively recently also massively popular, but now numbers have dropped (possibly due to competition from a larger club at Bottisham?).

All things have ups and downs - that's only natural - but, if you want to keep your youth club, now is the time to get out, get down there, and give it your support. Read all about it in this month's Crier..

Many congratulations to Geoffrey Woollard and his supporters, who have managed to persuade the powers-that-be to keep to Lodes going - but just for another 5 years, and then they'll "review". Yes, a nice quiet civilised review, with Geoffrey quite five years older by then. For every one of us that's signed the petition (see Geoffrey's article) there must be ten of us - including the Eds - that haven't got round to it yet. Now's the time...

Lots of interesting things in this month's edition, including a very welcome report from our County Councillor. So now we know who's responsible for public footpaths, along with "encouraging disabled access" no doubt . Absolutely. Anyone who set foot on Barston Drove last winter may not have been disabled before they set off, but the treacherous knee-high rutted quagmire they must then surely have tumbled into would have soon sorted that out.

Hurriedly glancing at last month's Contents to see whether Harvest Supper started at 7 or 7.30 (it was 6, we'd already missed it) I could not help but notice that a teensy- weensy error had unaccountably crept into the last line of the editorial. The trick-andtreaters brought a Grammar.
