St Mary's Church - Autumn News and Events

THANK YOU to the many people who have supported social and fundraising events in recent months.

The Quiz Night in September was one of the best yet, with fourteen teams battling it out; well done Jenny Brand and Lynn Rand for the fiendish questions and Kate Child and the team for a splendid supper; and thank you, quizmaster Andrew Noyes, for the dodgy jokes!

Harvest Supper raised £342 for the Church and £190 for WaterAid; amazing food - memorable puddings! - and wonderful singing from the ladies' Barbershop chorus made for a fantastic evening; massive thanks to all involved especially Mandy Kingsmill, Barb Mitchell and Janet Willmott.

The Christmas Market was a great success raising almost £900. Grateful thanks to all stallholders - too numerous to mention - a huge amount of work goes into making and collecting the wares. Kate Child is keen to recruit new blood for future years.

Thanks to the Walkinshaws for hosting a very enjoyable social - not fund-raising - evening; your hospitality was greatly appreciated.

The Village Variety Show featured the cream of village talent (ok - we borrowed a few people from Soham, Exning and Burwell, too!) and the music, singing, poetry and jokes were rounded off with a ten-minute pantomime - Cinderella! There was never a transformation scene like it - Fleur Routley twirled and span out of rags into ball-gown - this was real magic! And do beware of Lily and Grace, the ugly sisters, on dark nights! Grateful thanks to all the acts, and to Mark and Kaye Lewinski and Andrew Noyes for pulling it all together. We hope to have raised about £400.

We would very much like to welcome everyone to the special events and services for Advent and Christmas:

Season's Greetings
