Editorial
Apologies in advance this month for any errors, omissions, etc but it's the organ grinder's monkey in charge - on his own! Caroline has been away quite a lot recently as her father, Hugh, has been ill and died a few days ago.
Among his many talents, Hugh had over the years done the occasional guest piece for the Crier, for example his review of the Bulbeck production of "The Grand Duke" in the July 2003 edition. That was the year we won the Cambridge Building Society award for Best Small Village Magazine, last year we were runners-up and this year down to Highly Commended. Next year...?
As well as getting the magazine together , checked and on time, another thing which has suffered from Caroline being away is the on-line version of the Crier. We're very nearly there, so rather than keep Simon Andrews' magnificent work waiting, we'll probably launch it in the next few days with the main contents and build on it in situ. The missing bits are mainly to give a bit of extra context for people from outside the village.
At this point a plug for the Reach and Swaffham Prior Community Network (advert page 8) seems appropriate as without that making it easy to set up a server, we probably wouldn't have got round to putting the Crier on line. If you're thinking about getting broadband it's a good option in terms of what you get for £20/ month, including local help rather than an anonymous call centre.
Finally a couple of pictures from our Picture Editor this month tell their own story. One of work at last completed and the other reminding me of work that looks like never being done: replacement of one of my pet hates, the horribly ugly street lights along most of the High Street!
