Bach's Goldberg Variations
On Sunday 12 September St. Cyriac's Church will take part in the Heritage Open Days celebration which has been organised by The Civic Trust and English Heritage to illustrate the range of the nation's historic buildings.
Starting at 5.30 pm and ending exactly one hour later Ian de Massini will play the complete Goldberg Variations in St. Cyriac's Church..
These Variations constitute one of the great masterpieces of Baroque music and represent the summit of Bach's keyboard writing. In the view of Michael Ignatieff, the music's "deep inner serenity is impossible to describe and will be felt by every listener differently. It is the calm of a music utterly sure of itself, at home within the heart of musical invention, certain that this source of beauty will never run dry."
In the perfect acoustic setting and serene atmosphere of St. Cyriac's and with the masterly Ian de Massini on the keys the evening will be a musical treat not to be missed.
