From the Catholic Church, Newmarket Parish
My apologies that my column has been conspicuous by its absence in the past few months. Frances and/or I are away most weekends because both my parents are surrendering to their ageing bodies, and in the case of my father, to the terrors of dementia. Many others, especially in our age group have had to give themselves even more single-mindedly to their parents, and they will know what we are going through. But it is forcing me to take a break from all but the most essential things, and sadly this column is a victim of that. It is time for me to practice what I have so long preached about the dignity of every human person from conception to death; and it is very hard to keep faith with that.
Life in Newmarket goes on. Let me just tell you about our Holy Week.
