Village Gardeners

On Tuesday, 18th November, Robert Good, secretary of Cambridgeshire Wildlife Trust, and founder of Bumblebee Wildlife Gardening, gave us an excellent talk with lovely slides: from leaf-cutter bees frantically cutting to house martins collecting mud for their nests from his newly dug pond.

Giving wildlife a helping hand and encouraging creatures to visit and even better, stay in your garden can be done. Dig a pond, plant wild flowers for the insects and butterflies, put up bird-boxes and feed the birds, and last, but not least, don't be too tidy! (No problems there - Eds) Leave a few nettles, garden canes and logs around - something will make a home there.

Our next meeting is on Tuesday, January 16th, when Richard Todd, Anglesey Abbey's Head Gardener, will talk to us about the joys of the winter garden there. Everyone is very welcome.
