Travelling Nativity (Posada)
In our version of the Mexican celebration, knitted Mary and Joseph figures travel through the villages of Swaffham Prior, Swaffham Bulbeck and Reach. They will stay with a different family each night throughout December until they reach their destination on December 24th. They will then be added to the crib at Swaffham Bulbeck church during the crib service on Christmas Eve.
Mary and Joseph are accompanied on their journey by a flock of sheep. Each family taking part in the Posada may keep a sheep to remind them of their visitors.
