News from Bottisham Village College
There were a lot of happy faces in August when pupils collected their examination results. This was almost a record year for the college, with 67% of pupils gaining at least 5 passes at grade C or above. 100% of pupils passed at least two examinations, which also makes us very proud because it means that we were able to encourage everyone to "stay the course".
We also celebrated at the end of the summer term because our SATs results (taken by pupils aged 14) were the best ever.
End of term also marked the retirement of John Hanlon who had worked at the College for 32 years, and will be known to many readers of this magazine; he was an outstanding member of staff, and many people in the area, and further afield, wrote to thank him for his help and support, given in so many different ways. We all wish John a happy and fulfilling retirement.
We now look forward to the start of another year. Four new teachers will strengthen our team and 210 new pupils will arrive on Thursday 4th September to begin five very important years at the college. One of the first things they will learn to appreciate is what it means to us to be a Village College, and the importance we place on community.
Our adult classes will begin on 22nd September and we look forward to enrolling lots of new students. Last year we worked with over 2000 students on more than 250 different courses and we look forward to maintaining and developing this side of the college's work.
The College Library has reopened very successfully and has been restocked with thousands of new books, well worth a look if you have not visited for a long time. We are really grateful to everyone in the community who rallied round to help us to re-establish the library so quickly after the county council took the decision to close: a great example of community spirit in action!
